世界第九大奇迹∶新西兰的萤火虫洞

新西兰的萤火虫洞(Waitomo Caves)是一个有1.5万年历史的钟乳石溶洞，里面有成千上万个星星一样闪闪发光的萤火虫的幼虫。目前只在新西兰和澳大利亚有这种萤火虫。新西兰的萤火虫洞由一名英国测绘师和当地毛利酋长在1887年发现。毛利语中，Waitomo是绿水环绕的意思.

萤火虫幼虫简介∶

生存环境--无光无声音--它们遇到光线和声音便无法生存

生命周期∶一年。幼虫经6-9个月变成成虫。

成虫∶有翅膀，无嘴巴。不能吃，不会飞，只是交配产卵，直至筋疲力尽。临终前会用尽最后一点力气撞向幼虫的丝网，给自己的后代作食物。

萤火虫在幼虫期会发光吐丝。这些水晶珠串是萤火虫幼虫分泌出的附有水珠般黏液的半透明细丝.

洞里的昆虫向光亮飞来，被沾在丝上无法动弹，被萤火虫幼虫吃掉。

游客乘坐小船进入漆黑的萤火虫洞。必须保持绝对安静。不准拍照。洞顶上的蓝色光点是萤火虫幼虫所发出的光，年龄越大，发出的光就越强。
