know? i About
Avalanche: Avalanche is a mass of material(snow or
rock) moving rapidly down a slope or an incline. This material then
quickly collects and carries additional material down the slope
destroying everything within its path. It is triggered when the
material on a slope breaks loose from its surroundings. Snow
avalanches are the most common and usually occur in the vicinity of
a glacier or on snow mountains. The terrain, snow and the weather are some
of the contributing factors for an avalanche.Depending on the
trigger, avalanches can attain speeds as high as 130 km/hr, thus,
causing a massive destruction. It is estimated that as many as 150 people
die every year in North America and Europe due to avalanches.
Research has led to believe that as gradient temperatures rise,
they tend to melt the snow causing a portion to slip
off. In World War I,as many as 60,000 soldiers died in
Avalanches triggered due to artillery fire on the
Alps.
