i "Helping verbs vs. Linking
verbs": Helping verbs work with the main verb to
give the reader a better idea of when the action takes
place. They are used with a second verb to show
tense, form a question or a negative. Some common helping verbs
include - are, is , was, were, have, had, shall.  Linking verbs do not express action but simply connect the
subject of the verb to additional information about the subject.
Many forms of the 'to be' verb are used both as
helping verbs as well as linking verbs.It is important that
these shouldn't be confused. Instead, use stronger verbs
to make the sentence forceful. E.g. "My job has benefits for its employees." -
Improper      "My job
offers benefits for its employees." - Better E.g. "Harriet was the CFO for ten years." -
Improper      "Harriet served five
years as CFO." - Better
