communication tip "Using a
Consistent Style in Business writing": The
characteristics of your writing make up your writing style.
Generally, the less attention you attract to the way you
write, the more attention you will
draw to what you say. Often, business writing seems cold and
impersonal— due, in part, to the tone of it. And tone is part of
style. In a general sense, 'tone' is the attitude of the speaker or
writer as revealed in the choice of vocabulary or the intonation of
speech. Business writers should consider the tone of their message,
whether they are writing a memo, letter, report, or any type of
business document. Tone is present in all communication activities.
Ultimately, the tone of a message is a reflection of the writer and
it does affect how the reader will perceive the message. Here
are four reasons why we need to think about
style: [*]A crisp, clear style permits easier
reading. [*]Your final written product becomes more
cohesive and
coherent. [*]Style adds symmetry and rhythm to
writing. [*]Your style tells your reader something
about you as a
human. word/phrase "Beg the
question": means to prompt or raise
the question. e.g. "Every 2 days a juvenile is
arrested and it begs the question that what is
really happening to our
parents?" commonly confused

 "Chord,
Cord": Chord means group of musical notes
or anything that can be struck. Cord means a
long electrical line, or a wire or a
rope. e.g. "His story struck a chord
with the
listeners." e.g. "He had to use an extension board since the electrical
cord was short and could not reach the electrical
supply." do you know? i AboutCalendar year:
According to the Gregorian calendar, the calendar year begins on
January 1 and ends on December 31. Generally speaking, a calendar
year begins on the New Year's Day of the given calendar system and
ends on the day before the following New Year's
Day. The Gregorian solar calendar is an
arithmetical calendar. It counts days as the basic unit of time,
grouping them into years of 365 or 366 days. The solar calendar
repeats completely every 146,097 days, which fill 400 years, and
which also happens to be 20,871 seven-day weeks. Of these 400
years, 303 (the "common years") have 365 days, and 97 - the leap
years - have 366 days. This gives an average year length of exactly
365.2425 days - or 365 days, 5 hours, 49 minutes and 12 seconds.
A Gregorian year is divided into twelve months
of irregular length (but note that there is a period of 153 days
divided over 5 months in an alternating pattern from March to July
that repeats from August to December). Leap years are all years
divisible by 4, with the exception of those divisible by 100, but
not by 400. These 366-day years add a 29th day to February, which
normally has 28 days.
