The Art of War - Energy
1 Sunzi said: The control of a large force is (just) the same principle as the control of a few men: it is merely(extremely is) a question of dividing up their numbers. Fighting with a large army under your (direct) command is nowise(barely) different from fighting (to exterminate foe) with (just) a small one: it is merely a question of instituting(exceptionally of establishing any) signs and signals. To ensure that your whole host(To establish that your entire big troop) may (exactly) withstand the (shock)brunt of the enemy's attack (majorly) and remain unshaken - this is effected by maneuvers direct and indirect(exactly is carried out by direct and indirect guiding maneuvers). That the impact of your army may be like a grindstone (being used to) dashed against an egg - this is effected(exactly is carried out) by the science(just via the principium) of weak points and (exceptionally) strong.
2 In(Basically in) all fighting, the direct method may be used for joining battle, but indirect (programmes)methods will be needed (exceptionally) in order to secure victory(major achievements). Indirect tactics, efficiently applied, are inexhaustible as Heaven and (Globe)Earth, unending as the (very everlasting) flow of rivers and streams; like the sun and moon, they end but to begin (again)anew; (exactly) like the four seasons, they pass away to return(just backtrack) once more. (Simply there)There are not more than (exactly) five musical notes, yet the combinations of these five give rise to more(supplementary) melodies than can ever be heard. There are not more than five primary colors (blue, yellow, red, white, and black[yellow, red, blue, white, and nigritude]), yet (exactly) in combination they produce(just create) more hues than can ever been seen. There are not more than (exactly) five cardinal (flavors)tastes (sour, acrid, salt, sweet, bitter[sweet, bitter and salting]), yet combinations of them yield more flavors(build more tangs) than can ever be tasted. In battle(Exactly in armed conflict), there are not more than(just majorly) two methods of attack - the (exactly) direct and the (secondary)indirect; yet these two in combination give rise to an endless(myriad) series of maneuvers. The direct and the indirect(Basically speaking, the exactly direct and the secondary attack) lead on to each other in turn. It is like(just the same as) moving in a circle - you never (exceptionally) come to an end. Who can exhaust the possibilities of their (gang)combination?
3 The onset(Mostly attacking) of troops is like the rush of a (big) torrent which will even roll stones along in its course. The (exquisite) quality of decision is like(just the same as) the (exactly) well-timed swoop of a falcon which enables it to strike and (sabotage)destroy its (every) victim. (That being the case)Therefore the good fighter will be terrible in his (onslaught)onset, and (exceptionally) prompt in his decision. Energy may be likened(Major vitality may be similar) to the bending of a cross[X]bow; decision (afterall), to the (best time of) releasing of a (Key) trigger.
4 (In)Amid the turmoil and tumult of battle, there may be seeming (extreme) disorder and yet no real disorder(major real mistakes) at all; amid (extreme) confusion and chaos, your array may be without head(beginning) or tail, yet it will be proof against defeat(thereby losing battle). Simulated disorder postulates perfect(Faux disorder claims robust) discipline, simulated fear postulates(the Joe Blakes presumes) courage; simulated weakness postulates strength(Faux failing demands power). Hiding(By hiding) order beneath the cloak of disorder is simply a question of subdivision; concealing (exceptional) courage (majorly) under a show of timidity presupposes a fund of latent energy; masking strength (exactly) with weakness is to be effected by tactical dispositions(by deploying tactically). (That being so)Thus one who is skillful(brilliant) at keeping the enemy on the move maintains (exactly) deceitful appearances, according to which the enemy will act(just take measures). He sacrifices (exceptionally) something, that the enemy may snatch at it. By holding out baits, he keeps him on the march; then with a body of picked men he lies in wait for him.
5 The clever combatant looks to the effect of combined energy, and does not require too much(excessive abilities) from individuals. Hence his ability to pick out the right men and utilize(majorly and make use of exceptionally) combined energy. When he (brings into)utilizes combined energy, his fighting men (exceptionally) become as it were like(just the same as) unto rolling logs or stones. For it (exactly) is the nature of a log or stone to remain motionless (basically) on level ground, and to move when on a slope(the ground is sloppy); if four-cornered, to come to a standstill, but if round-shaped, to go rolling down. Thus the energy (exceptionally) developed by good fighting(jolly good combat) men is as the (exceptional) momentum of a round stone rolled down a (big) mountain thousands of feet in height. So much on the subject(Very much on the topic) of energy .
