Many said that screenings of the movie are being restricted to make way for a state-sponsored biography of the Chinese philosopher Confucius, in which the Hong Kong star Chow Yun-fat would be featured as the great thinker and educator in ancient China. The movie is due to debut in theaters later this week.

A notice was also found posted on the Web site of a local cinema in Wuxi city, Jiangsu province, stating that 'the China Film Group, distributor of Avatar, has notified the movie theater to pull the movie from screens on Jan 23. Those who have pre-purchased movie tickets will get a full refund'.
