小鼠们呼吸雾霾的生活持续三个月。三个月后,这些小鼠才在组内寻找伴侣,产生“爱的结晶”。无论父母是否暴露于雾霾中,幼崽的数量和性别差异并不明显,幼崽之间的体重也没有显著差异。但是当子代小鼠们长到三个月大时(相当于人类的青年时期[2]),各方面的差异就显现出来了。
父母孕前暴露于PM2.5的小鼠们,体重明显要比父母生活在干净环境中的小鼠低(25.73g vs 28.3g),体表面积、心脏重量、胫骨长度等也明显低于对照,表现出全面的生长迟缓现象。
但是,还远不仅“长得慢了”这么简单!研究人员检查了小鼠心脏结构和功能,超声心动图显示,暴露组子代小鼠心脏收缩期(PWTs)后壁厚度低于对照组(1.44mm vs 1.7mm),表明暴露组小鼠的心脏收缩功能可能有所受损。而进一步的分析中,暴露组小鼠的左心室缩短分数(29.05 vs 35.09)和射血分数(56.27 vs 64.86)的减少更是证明了这一点。
