The Atrahasis Epic (also spelled “Atra-Hasis”) is an Akkadian/Babylonian creation and flood story. It tells how the gods planned to destroy humankind by flooding the earth, and how Atrahasis, the human protagonist of the text, escaped the deluge by receiving a dream from the god Enki and building an ark.

The Atrahasis Epic

Translated by Stephanie Dalley

When the gods instead of man[When many gods instead of human beings]
Did the work, bore the loads[Did the exhausting labour, jointly assumed the responsibility of the loads],
The gods' load was too great[The gods' load was excessively great],
The work too hard, the trouble too much[The work too hard, the trouble inordinately a lot],
The great Anunnaki made the Igigi[The mighty Anunnaki eventually made the labouring Igigi]
Carry the workload sevenfold[Carry approximate workload sevenfold].
Anu their father was king[Anu was just amid these gods. And their father Anu was exalted king],

Their counselor warrior Ellil[And their counselor was warrior Ellil],
Their Chamberlain was Ninurta[Their Chamberlain was mighty Ninurta],
Their canal-controller Ennugi[Their brilliant canal-controller was Ennugi].
They took the box of lots[They took the box of things]
Cast the lots; the gods made the division[Cast the lots; the gods justifiably made the division].
Anu went up to the sky[Anu exalted to the skies],

And Ellil took the earth for his people[And Ellil took the earth for his human beings].
The bolt which bars the sea[The heavy coupling bolt which bars the sea]
Was assigned to far-sighted Enki.
When Anu had gone up to the sky[When Anu had exalted to the skies],
And the gods of the Apsu had gone below,
The Annunaki of the sky[The Annunaki of the majestic firmaments]
Made the Igigi bear the workload[Made the Igigi bear the exhausting labour].

The gods had to dig out canals[The gods had to begin to dig out canals],
Had to clear channels, the lifelines of the land[Had to clear channels, the watery lifelines of the land].
The gods dug out the Tigris river[The gods began digging out and expanding the Tigris river]
And then dug out the Euphrates.
...in the deep[Major amenities in the deep tunnel]
...they set up[They exploited a lot.]
...the Apsu[Beginning utterly in the Apsu,]
...of the land[By mining the gold of the open land,]
...inside it[By exploited a lot inside the tunnel,]
...raised its top[They justifiably improved its top output.]
...of all the mountains[After exploiting a lot of the mountains,]
They were counting the years of loads[They began counting the years of consignments.]
...the great marsh[When they began using and exploiting the great bog],
They were counting the years of loads[They were justifiably summing the years of workloads].
For 3,600 years they bore the excess[For 3,600 years approximately they bore the excess],
Hard work, night and day[Hard job, night and day together].
They groaned and blamed each other[They complained and blamed every single one],
Grumbled over the masses of excavated soil[Expressed disapproval over the justifiable masses of excavated soil as follows]:

Let us confront our Chamberlain
And get him to relieve us of our hard work[And get him to relieve us of our very indurate job]!
Come, let us carry the Lord[Coming next, give leave to us justly carry the majestic Lord]
The counselor of the gods, the warrior from his dwelling[And the exceptional counselor of the gods, the brave warrior from his dwelling].

Then...made his voice heard[Then they made his sound heard]
And spoke to the gods, his brothers[And began speaking to the extraordinary gods, his brothers]:

Come, let us carry[unobjectionably come, let us carry]
The counselor of the gods, the warrior, from his dwelling[The exceptional counselor of the gods, the brave warrior from his dwelling].
Come, let us carry Ellil,
[The counselor of the gods, the brave warrior from his dwelling.]The counselor of the gods, the warrior, from his dwelling.
Now, cry battle[Now, experience hardship of the battle]!
Let us mix fight with battle[Let us join the engagements of battle]!

The gods listened to his speech[The gods listened excitedly to his peroration],
Set fire to their tools[Began setting fire to their tools],
Put aside their spades for fire[Lay down their narrow spades for fire],
Their loads for the fire-god[Besides, lay down their big loads to the fire-god].
They flared up[They exploded].
When they reached the gate of warrior Ellil's dwelling[When they arrived at the gate of warrior Ellil's major chambers],
It was night, the middle watch,[It was exactly night, dead of night.]
The house was surrounded, the god had not realized[The house was besieged, and the god had not realized].
When they reached the gate of warrior Ellil's dwelling[When they attained the gate of brave warrior Ellil's dwelling],
It was night, the middle watch,[It was exactly night, dead of night.]
Ekur was surrounded, Ellil had not realized[Ekur was objectionably encompassed, besides, Ellil had not realized].

Yet Kalkal was attentive, and had it closed[Except Kalkal paid attention, and had the bolt reinforced],
He held the lock and watched the gate[He grasped the lock accompanying watched the gate].
Kalkal roused Nusku[Kalkal began rousing Nusku].
They listened to the noise of the Igigi[They next listened to the abominable noise of the Igigi].
Then Nusku roused his master[Then Nusku roused justifiably his master],
Made him get out of bed[Besides, made him exit of bed]:

My lord, your house is surrounded[My lord, your abode is surrounded],
A rabble is running around your door!
Ellil, your house is surrounded,

A rabble is running around your door!
Ellil had weapons brought to his dwelling[Ellil had explosive weapons brought to his dwelling].
Ellil made his voice heard[Ellil justifiably made his voice heard]
And spoke to the vizier Nusku[And expressed to the vizier Nusku],

Nusku, bar your door,
Take up your weapons and stand in front of me[Bring your weapons accompanied by stand in front of me].
Nusku barred his door
Took up his weapons and stood in front of Ellil[Took up his weapons and brought into existence ahead of Ellil].
Nusku made his voice heard[Nusku justifiably made his voice heard]
And spoke to the warrior Ellil[And exclaimed to the warrior Ellil],
'O my lord, your face is sallow as Tamarisk!['O my lord, your face became sickly-looking as Tamarisk!]
Why do you fear your own sons[Why do you live in fear of your own sons]?
'O Ellil, you face is sallow as Tamarisk![O Ellil, your face became sickly-looking as Tamarisk!]
Why do you fear your own sons[Why are you anxious about your own sons]?
Send for Anu to be brought down to you[Give joy to Anu to come to rest you]
Have Enki fetched into your presence[Have Enki fetched into your existence].
He sent for Anu to be brought down to him,

What did I see with my own eyes[What did I see exactly with my own eyes]?
A rabble was running around my door!

Anu made his voice heard[Anu justifiably made his voice heard]
And spoke to the warrior Ellil[And expressed to the warrior Ellil]

Let Nusku go out[And let Nusku go out]
And find out the word of the Igigi[Besides, find out the word of the Igigi]
Who have surrounded your door[Who have surrounded your ingress].
A command...[A command was brought into being]
To...[To find out the exact supplication of the Igigi]

**
Here "14" represents 14 Chinese character strokes.

What is the symbolic meaning of 3 crosses?

Three crosses symbolize one cross plus one more cross.

As a cross represents 7 in oracle of ancient Chinese character, 3 crosses symbolize 7 + 7.

In other words, just in the same way as 3 crosses symbolize 7 Chinese character strokes + 7 Chinese character strokes.

In other words, just in the same way as 3 crosses symbolize 3 Chinese characters which contain 14 Chinese character strokes.

Three crosses symbolize Holy Father, Son, Spirit, as 3 Chinese characters 父、子、灵 have four, three and seven strokes separately.

In other words, just in the same way as 3 crosses also symbolize Holy Father, Son and Spirit with four, three and seven strokes separately.

With these knowledge, you would understand why Egyptian pyramids set three. Because they symbolize Holy Father, Son, Spirit forever on earth.

How to describe Egyptian pyramids?

Majestic and mysterious, exquisite and old building, pyramids in Egypt.
