2 The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
(Following up)
59. But the wrongdoers among them substituted words other than those given to them, so We sent down on the wrongdoers a plague from heaven, because of their wicked behavior.
60. And recall when Moses prayed for water for his people. We said, “Strike the rock with your staff.” Thereupon twelve springs gushed out from it, and each tribe recognized its drinking-place. “Eat and drink from God’s provision, and do not corrupt the earth with disobedience.”
61. And recall when you said, “O Moses, we cannot endure one kind of food, so call to your Lord to produce for us of what the earth grows: of its herbs, and its cucumbers, and its garlic, and its lentils, and its onions.” He said, “Would you substitute worse for better? Go down to Egypt, where you will have what you asked for.” They were struck with humiliation and poverty, and incurred wrath from God. That was because they rejected God’s revelations and wrongfully killed the prophets. That was because they disobeyed and transgressed.
62. Those who believe, and those who are Jewish, and the Christians, and the Sabeans—any who believe in God and the Last Day, and act righteously—will have their reward with their Lord; they have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve.
63. And recall when We received a pledge from you, and raised the Mount above you: “Take what We have given you earnestly, and remember what is in it, that you may attain righteousness.”
64. But after that you turned away. Were it not for God’s grace and mercy towards you, you would have been among the losers.
65. And you surely knew those of you who violated the Sabbath. We said to them, “Be despicable apes!”
66. Thus We made it a deterrent for their generation, and for subsequent generations, and a lesson for the righteous.
67. And recall when Moses said to his people, “God commands you to sacrifice a heifer.” They said, “Do you make a mockery of us?” He said, “God forbid that I should be so ignorant.”
68. They said, “Call upon your Lord to show us which one.” He said, “He says she is a heifer, neither too old, nor too young, but in between. So do what you are commanded.”
69. They said, “Call upon your Lord to show us what her color is.” He said, “He says she is a yellow heifer, bright in color, pleasing to the beholders.”
70. They said, “Call upon your Lord to show us which one; the heifers look alike to us; and God willing, we will be guided.”
71. He said, “He says she is a heifer, neither yoked to plow the earth, nor to irrigate the field; sound without blemish.” They said, “Now you have brought the truth.” So they slew her; though they almost did not.

59. But the wrongdoers among them substituted words other than those given to them, so We sent down on the wrongdoers a plague from heaven, because of their wicked behavior[Whereas, the wrongdoers among them exchanged scripture other than those being specially given to them, this being the case We exceptionally sent down aimed at the wrongdoers a major plague from the sky, because of their noxious behavior].
60. And recall when Moses prayed for water for his people. We said, “Strike the rock with your staff.” Thereupon twelve springs gushed out from it, and each tribe recognized its drinking-place. “Eat and drink from God’s provision, and do not corrupt the earth with disobedience.”[And bring to mind when Moses prayed intended for water belonging to his people. We expressed, “Strike the hard rock with your staff.” Thereupon twelve springs ejected away from it, each single tribe exhilaratingly obtained its drinking-place. “ Eat accompanied by drink beginning out of God’s exceptional provision, and do not objectionably mess up the earth with noxious behavior.”]
61. And recall when you said, “O Moses, we cannot endure one kind of food, so call to your Lord to produce for us of what the earth grows: of its herbs, and its cucumbers, and its garlic, and its lentils, and its onions.” He said, “Would you substitute worse for better?[Thereafter bring to mind at the moment you said, “O Moses, we cannot carry on one kind of food, to this extent call to your Lord to bring about for us of what the earth grows expressly: of its garlic, and its onions, and its lentils, and its cucumbers, and its herbs, jasmine as an example.” He enunciated softly, “Would you substitute worse representing better?]Go down to Egypt, where you will have what you asked for.” They were struck with humiliation and poverty, and incurred wrath from God. That was because they rejected God’s revelations and wrongfully killed the prophets. That was because they disobeyed and transgressed[Go down to Egypt, where you will certainly have what you asked for.” They were being struck with extra humiliation and poverty, and incurred wrath from God. That was because they rejected Almighty’s revelations and wrongfully exterminated the big name prophets. That was because often they disobeyed and transgressed].
62. Those who believe, and those who are Jewish, and the Christians, and the Sabeans—any who believe in God and the Last Day, and act righteously—will have their reward with their Lord; they have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve[Those who believe, and those who are Jewish, and the Christians, and the Sabeans—any who believe in God and the Last Day, and by acting righteously—will have their exceeding reward from their Lord; they have nothing to fear, nor will they deject].
63. [And remember as the gods received a pledge from you, and next raised above you the big mount: “Get what We have given you genuinely, and remember what is among it, to such an extent you may possibly attain righteousness.”]And recall when We received a pledge from you, and raised the Mount above you: “Take what We have given you earnestly, and remember what is in it, that you may attain righteousness.”
64. But after that you turned away. Were it not for God’s grace and mercy towards you, you would have been among the losers[Just the same afterwards you turned away. Excepting that it were not for God’s grace and benignancy regarding you, you would typically have been by the side of the no-goods].
65. And you surely knew those of you who violated the Sabbath. We said to them, “Be despicable apes!”[Thereafter you explicitly realized those of you who persistently violated the Sabbath. We judged finally to them, “Be despicable apes in the course of time!”]
66. Thus We made it a deterrent for their generation, and for subsequent generations, and a lesson for the righteous[Axiomatically the gods brought about it a deterrent for their generation and for later generations, in company with an lesson for the righteous].
67. And recall when Moses said to his people, “God commands you to sacrifice a heifer.” They said, “Do you make a mockery of us?” He said, “God forbid that I should be so ignorant.”[And bring to mind at the moment that Moses expressed to his men and women, “God commands you to sacrifice a heifer.” They said, “Do you make a joke of us?” At the time he said, “God exclude that I should be altogether ignorant of.”]
68. They said, “Call upon your Lord to show us which one.” He said, “He says she is a heifer, neither too old, nor too young, but in between. So do what you are commanded.”[They subsequently said, “Call upon your God to display us which one.” He said, “He says she ought to be a heifer, neither too young, nor too old, but in between. Taking this into account exercise what you justly are commanded just now.”]
69. They said, “Call upon your Lord to show us what her color is.” He said, “He says she is a yellow heifer, bright in color, pleasing to the beholders.”[They next said, “Call upon your Lord to exhibit us what her tinge is.” He said, “He says she is a yellow heifer, and bright in tinge awesomely, the intoxication of the beholders.”]
70. They said, “Call upon your Lord to show us which one; the heifers look alike to us; and God willing, we will be guided.”[They said, “Call upon your Lord to show us which one; the heifers look just the same to us; and God willing, we will be expressly guided.”]
71. [Also he phrased, “He says she ought to be a heifer, neither yoked to plough the earth, nor to certainly irrigate the unimmersed field; sound without blemish.” They said, “Now you have brought the free of error good truth.” To this extent they killed her; although they just about crumbled sweepingly.]He said, “He says she is a heifer, neither yoked to plow the earth, nor to irrigate the field; sound without blemish.” They said, “Now you have brought the truth.” So they slew her; though they almost did not.
