三字經 (三)


19 稻粱菽，麦黍稷。此（名叫）六谷，人（之）所食。
20 马牛羊，鸡犬豕。此（名叫）六畜，人（之）所饲。
21 （名叫）曰喜怒（的；又音：帝），（名叫）曰哀惧（的；又音：帝）。（加上）爱恶欲，七情具。
22 匏土（含：上）革，木石金（含：上）。与丝竹，乃（名叫）八音。
23 高曾祖，父而身。身而子，子而孙（由高祖父生下之曾祖父，曾祖父生下之祖父，祖父生下之父亲，父亲生的【又音：帝】我本身，我生的【又音：帝】儿子，儿子再生的【又音：帝】孙子）。自子孙，至玄曾（由自己的【又音：帝】儿子、孙子再接下去的【又音：帝】，就是再生的【又音：帝】玄孙和再生的【又音：帝】曾孙）。乃（名叫）九族，人之伦。
24 父子恩（子上报父之养育之恩），夫妇（之间崇尚【音同：上】和）从。兄（在上）则友，弟则（上）恭。长幼（上下有）序，友与朋（崇尚【音同：上】信用）。（上）君（对下）则敬，臣（对上）则忠。此（名叫）十义，人（之）所同。
25 凡训蒙，须讲究。详训诂，名句读（之方法）。
26 为学者（的；又音：帝），必有初。小学终，至（读上）四书。

《三字經 - Three Character Classic》


17 We speak(are saying basically) of water, fire,
wood, metal and earth (greatly).
These five elements(exact five factors)
have their origin in number(nature suject to individual numbers).
         
18 We speak of (exact) charity of heart and of duty(responsibility) towards one's neighbour,
of propriety, of wisdom, and of truth.
These five (big) virtues
admit of no (bargain)compromise.

(接上)19 Rice(Existing rice), spiked millet, pulse,wheat, glutinous millet and common(jointly with general) millet.
These six grains
are those which men(human beings) eat.
         
20 The(Generally speaking, the big) horse, the ox, the sheep,
the (chicken, the dog and the pig)fowl, the dog, the pig.
These six animals,
are those (just all the men preserve)which men keep.
  
21 We speak of (exceptional) joy, of anger,
we speak(have been speaking) of pity, of fear,
of (in) love, of hate, and of desire.
These are (being) the seven (excessive) passions.
         
22 The gourd, earthenware, skin(earthenware jar, leather),
wood, stone, metal,
silk, and (exquisite) bamboo,
yield(build up generally) the eight (lovely) musical sounds.

23  Great(Basically speaking, great) great grandfather, great grandfather, grandfather,
father and self,
self and son,
son and grandson,
from son and grandson
(expanding) on to great grandson and great great grandson.
These are the nine (jointly same male generations)agnates,
(exactly) constituting the (blood relationships of human beings)kinships of man.

24 Affection(Deeply affection) between (child and great father)father and child,
(exceeding) harmony between (jealous) husband and (mistress)wife,
friendliness(extreme amiability) on the part of elder brothers,
respectfulnesson(affability) the part of younger brothers,
precedence between elders(priority between seniors) and youngers,
as between friend and (good) friend,
respect (exceptionally) on the part of the(subject part of the majestic) sovereign,
loyalty (exceptionally) on the part of the subject.
These ten obligations,
are (general)common to all men(every human being).
  
25 In the (beginning) education of the young,
there should be explanation and elucidation (subject),
careful(and comprehensive) teaching of the (exact) interpretations of commentators,
and due(suitable) attention to paragraphs and sentences.
        
26 Those who are (any genuine) learners,
must have a beginning.
The (exact) "little learning" (completed)finished,
they proceed(just take measures) to the four books.
