GENUINE DISCERNMENT OF THE PRINCIPLE OF SUCHNESS, FIVE


“Subhuti, what do you think?
须菩提！于意云何？

“Can the Tathagata be seen by means of His bodily form?”[“Can the Tathagata be distinguished exactly in accordance with of His justifiable material shape?”]
可以身相见如来不？

“No, World Honoured One, the Tathgate cannot be seen by means of His bodily form[“No, World Extraordinary One, the Tathgate cannot be distinguished by dint of His bodily patterning].
不也，世尊！不可以身相得见如来。

“Why?[“Exactly for which reason?]
何以故？

“Because when the Tathagata speaks of bodily form, it is not (real) form.”[“Just cause at the time as the Tathagata expresses of physical form, it is basically not configuration.”]如来所说身相，即非身相。

The Buddha said to Subhuti[The Buddha kindly explained to Subhuti]:
佛告须菩提：

“Everything with form is unreal;[“Everything existed with certain form is just dreamlike;]
凡所有相，皆是虚妄。

[“as an example, if all forms can be sighted as unreal, the Tathagata will certainly be discerned.”]“if all forms are seen as unreal, the Tathagata will be perceived.”
若见诸相非相，则见如来。
