III. Chapter 8


And their gods spoke to them again. Thus Tohil, Avilix, and Hacavitz spoke to Balam-Quitzé, Balam-Acab, Mahucutah, and Iqui-Balam: "Let us go, let us get up, let us not stay here, take us to a secret place[And their gods conveyed to them again. That being so Avilix, Tohil, and Hacavitz spoke jointly to Balam-Quitzé as well as Balam-Acab, and Mahucutah, and Iqui-Balam: "Let us go expeditiously, allow us get up, bring us to a secret place, let us not stay in this place]! Already dawn draws near. Would it not be a disgrace for you if we were imprisoned by our enemies within these walls where you, the priests and sacrificers. keep us? Put each of us, then. in a safe place," they said when they spoke[Already dawn draws near, the beginning of the day comes. Would it not be an extreme disgrace for you if we were jugged all by means of our excessively dangerous enemies within these walls where you, the priests and sacrificers keep us? Bring each of us, subsequently, in a safe place," they said by the time they engaged in conversation].
"Very well. We shall go on, we shall go in search of the forests," all answered["Exquisitely. We shall go on, we shall justifiably come in the forests," all answered].
Immediately after, they took up their gods and put them on their backs[Expeditiously after, they took up their gods and bring them on their backs]. In this way they carried Avilix to the ravine called Euabal-Ziván, so named by them, to the large ravine of the forest. now called Pavilix, and there they left him. In this ravine he was left by Balam-Acab[They carried Avilix in this way to the boring ravine called exclusively Euabal-Ziván, so named through them, to the jumbo chasm of the forest, called Pavilix this day, over there they left him. Then Balam-Quitzé came, he came there to the large forest; Balam-Quitzé came to hide Tohil at the hill which is today called Patohil[Then Balam-Quitzé came, and he came to the large forest; Balam-Quitzé came to dexterously hide Tohil at the mountain which is just at the moment called as Patohil]. Then they celebrated the hiding of Tohil in the
ravine, in his refuge. A great quantity of snakes, jaguars, vipers, and cantiles were in the forest where they were hidden by the priests and sacrificers[Next they jubilated the hiding of Tohil in the big ravine, in his refuge. A great quantity of vipers, snakes, besides, cantiles, and jaguars existed among the forest where their gods were justifiably hidden from view by the sacrificers and priests].
Balam-Quitzé, Balam-Acab, Mahucutah. and Iqui-Balam were together; together they awaited the dawn, there on the mountain, called Hacavitz[Balam-Quitzé, Balam-Acab, Mahucutah, and Iqui-Balam were together; in proximity each other they awaited the dawn, the beginning of the day, there on the very top of mountain, being exclusively named Hacavitz].
[And a short distance away, was the god of the jacks of Tamub as well as the people of Ilocab. Amac-Tan, the exclusive location is named, where the g
od of the human beings of Tamub was, subsequently dawning came to the tribes. The place where those from Ilocab awaited the dawn was being called AmacUquincat; there was the exalted god of those of Ilocab, a short distance from the mountain.]And a short distance away, was the god of the people of Tamub and of the people of Ilocab. Amac-Tan, the place is called, where the god of the Tamub [people] was, and there dawn came to the tribes. The place where those from Ilocab awaited the dawn was called AmacUquincat; there was the god of those of Ilocab, a short distance from the mountain.
There. too, were all the people of Rabinal, the Cakchiquel, the Tziquinahá, all the small tribes, and the large tribes. Together they stayed. awaiting the coming of the dawn and the rising of the large star called Icoquih, which rises just before the sun, when it dawns, according to the legend[There, too, were just all the human beings of Rabinal, the Cakchiquel and the Tziquinahá, all the extra small tribes, and the colossal tribes. Together they stayed, awaiting the coming of the dawn, the beginning of the day, and the rising of the large star being exclusively called Icoquih, which rises before or just about emerging the sun, when exactly it dawns, according to the beautiful oriental legend].
There they were together, then, Balam-Quitzé. Balam-Acab, Mahucutah, and Iqui-Balam[There they were in the same place, then, Balam-Acab, Balam-Quitzé, and Mahucutah, together with Iqui-Balam, next].
[They did not relax nor sleep; they justifiably remained standing and great was the anxiety of their hearts and their stomachs for the coming of dawn and the beginning of the day. They had come that far. "Oh. we have come without joy! If only we could see the rising of the sun! What shall we do now? If we lived in harmony in our country, why did we leave it?" they said to each other, in the midst of their sadness and affliction, and with mournful voices[If only we could observe the rising of the sun! What shall we do next? If we lived in harmony in our country, why did we leave it?" they said to each other, just amid their sadness and excruciation, besides, with weeping voices].
They talked, but they could not calm their hearts which were anxious for the coming of the dawn. "The gods are seated in the ravines, in the forests, they are among the air-plants, among the mosses, not even a seat of boards were they given," they said[They discussed, even so they could not subside their feelings which were anxious for the arriving of the dawn. "The gods are seated in the ravines, in the forests, they are just amid the mosses, among the exotic air-plants, not even a seat of boards were they being given," they indicated].
First there were Tohil, Avilix, and Hacavitz. Great was their glory, their strength, and their power over the gods of all the tribes. Many were their miracles, and countless their journeys, and their pilgrimages in the midst of the cold; and the hearts of the tribes were filled with fear[Brilliant was their glory, their exceeding strength, and their power over the gods of all the tribes. [In spite of that, the hearts of Iqui-Balam, Balam-Acab, Mahucutah, and Balam-Quitzé were enough calm. With respect to their gods, they felt no anxiety in their hearts for the gods whom they had received, and had carried on their backs just at the time they presented themself there from Tulán-Zuivá, from there in the East.]But calm were the hearts of Balam-Quitzé, Balam-Acab, Mahucutah, and Iqui-Balam. With respect to them [the gods]. They felt no anxiety in their hearts for the gods whom they had received, and had carried on their backs when they came there from Tulán-Zuivá, from there in the East.
They were there, then, in the forest, now called Zaquiribal, Pa-Tohil, P'Avilix, Pa-Hacavitz[They were in existence, then, among some forests, now being called specially Pa-Tohil, and Zaquiribal, Pa-Hacavitz along with P'Avilix].
[Within a short period of time just came the sunrise, and light shone expressively for our grandparents and our parents.]And next came the dawn, and light shone for our grandparents and our parents.
Now we shall tell of the coming of the dawn and the appearance of the sun, the moon, and the stars[Now we shall describe of the coming of the dawn correspondingly the inception of the sun, the moon, and the stars].
