易經•彖傳•兌

兌，說也。剛中而柔外，說以利貞，是以順乎天，而應乎人。說以先民，民忘其勞；說以犯難，民忘其死；說之大，民勸矣哉！


Tuan Zhuan: Dui        


Dui has the meaning of pleased satisfaction. (We have) the strong (lines) in the centre, and the weak (lines) on the outer edge (of the two trigrams), (indicating that) in pleasure what is most advantageous is the maintenance of firm correctness. Through this there will be found an accordance with (the will of) heaven, and a correspondence with (the feelings of) men. When (such) pleasure goes before the people, (and leads them on), they forget their toils; when it animates them in encountering difficulties, they forget (the risk of) death. How great is (the power of) this pleased satisfaction, stimulating in such a way the people!

Tuan Zhuan: Dui (In other words)   

Dui has the meaning of self-directed satisfaction. (We have) the strong (lines) in the centre, and the weak (lines) on the outer edge (of the tandem trigrams), (denoting that) in pleasure what is greatest advantageous is the maintenance firm correctness. Through this there will be found an accordance with (the will of) heaven, and a correspondence with (the feelings of) men. When (such) pleasure sets out before the people, (and leads them on), they forget their toils; when it animates them encountering tribulations, surely they forget the danger of death.

With the aid of this there will be brought into being a complying with (the bidding of) heaven, and an approximation with (the majority ideas of) human beings]. When (such) pleasure goes before the people, (and leads them on), they forget their toils; when it animates them in encountering difficulties, they forget (the risk of) death[When (such) exhilaration brings out and lays in front of human beings, (and excites and leads them on), they forget their hard jobs; at the time it sparks them in experiencing tribulations, they disbelieve (the danger of) dying]. How great is (the power of) this pleased satisfaction, stimulating in such a way the people[How brilliant is (the strength of) this intoxicated satisfaction and joy, inflaming in the aforesaid a way the human beings]!
