134. That was a community that has passed; for them is what they have earned, and for you is what you have earned; and you will not be questioned about what they used to do.

135. And they say, “Be Jews or Christians, and you will be guided.” Say, “Rather, the religion of Abraham, the Monotheist; he was not an idolater.”

136. Say, “We believe in God; and in what was revealed to us; and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs; and in what was given to Moses and Jesus; and in what was given to the prophets—from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we surrender.”

137. If they believe in the same as you have believed in, then they have been guided. But if they turn away, then they are in schism. God will protect you against them; for He is the Hearer, the Knower.

138. God’s coloring. And who gives better coloring than God? “And we are devoted to Him.”

139. Say, “Do you argue with us about God, when He is our Lord and your Lord, and We have our works, and you have your works, and we are sincere to Him?”

140. Or do you say that Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Patriarchs were Jews or Christians? Say, “Do you know better, or God?” And who does greater wrong than he who conceals a testimony he has from God? God is not unaware of what you do.

141. That was a community that has passed. To them is what they have earned, and to you is what you have earned. And you will not be questioned about what they used to do.

142. The ignorant among the people will say, “What has turned them away from the direction of prayer they once followed?” Say, “To God belong the East and the West. He guides whom He wills to a straight path.”

143. Thus We made you a moderate community, that you may be witnesses to humanity, and that the Messenger may be a witness to you. We only established the direction of prayer, which you once followed, that We may distinguish those who follow the Messenger from those who turn on their heels. It is indeed difficult, except for those whom God has guided. But God would never let your faith go to waste. God is Kind towards the people, Merciful.

144. We have seen your face turned towards the heaven. So We will turn you towards a direction that will satisfy you. So turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque. And wherever you may be, turn your faces towards it. Those who were given the Book know that it is the Truth from their Lord; and God is not unaware of what they do.

145. Even if you were to bring to those who were given the Book every proof, they would not follow your direction, nor are you to follow their direction, nor do they follow the direction of one another. And if you were to follow their desires, after the knowledge that has come to you, you would be in that case one of the wrongdoers.

134.那是已逝去的民族，他们得享受他们的行为的报酬，你们得享受你们的行为的报酬，你们对他们的行为不负责任。

135.他们说：“你们应当变成犹太教徒和基督教徒，你们才能获得正道。”你说：“不然，我们遵循崇奉正教的易卜拉欣的宗教，他不是以物配主者。”

136.你们说：“我们信我们所受的启示，与易卜拉欣、易司马仪、易司哈格、叶尔孤白和各支派所受的启示，与穆萨和尔撒受赐的经典，与众先知受主所赐的经典；我们对他们中任何一个，都不加以歧视，我们只顺真主。”

137.如果他们象你们样信道，那末，他们确已遵循正道了；如果他们背弃正道，那末，他们只陷於反对中；真主将替你们抵御他们。他确是全聪的，确是全知的。

138.你们当保持真主的洗礼，有谁比真主施洗得更好呢？“我们只崇拜他。”

139.你说：“难道你们和我们争论真主吗？其实，他是我们的主，也是你们的主；我们将受我们的行为的报酬，你们也将受你们的行为的报酬；我们只是忠於他的。”

140.难道你们说过“易卜拉欣、易司马仪、易司哈格、叶尔孤白和各支派，都是犹太教徒，或基督教徒吗？”你说：“你们更有知识呢？还是真主更有知识呢？自己手中有从真主降示的证据，而加以隐讳的人，有谁比他还不义呢？真主绝不忽视你们的行为。”

141.那是已逝去的民族，他们得享受他们的行为的报酬，你们也得享受你们的行为的报酬，你们对他们的行为不负责任。

142.一般愚人将说：“他们为甚麽要背弃他们原来所对的朝向呢？”你说：“东方和西方，都是真主的，他把他所意欲的人引上正路。”

143.我这样以你们为中正的民族，以便你们作证世人，而使者作证你们。我以你原来所对的方向为朝向，只为辨别谁是顺从使者的，谁是背叛的。这确是一件难事，但在真主所引导的人，却不难。真主不致使你们的信仰徒劳无酬。真主对於世人，确是至爱的，确是至慈的。

144.我确已见你反复地仰视天空，故我必使你转向你所喜悦的朝向。你应当把你的脸转向禁寺。你们无论在那里，都应当把你们的睑转向禁寺。曾受天经者必定知道这是从他们的主降示的真理，真主绝不忽视他们的行为。

145.即使你以一切迹象昭示曾受天经者，他们必不顺从你的朝向，你也绝不顺从他们的朝向；他们各守自己的朝向，互不相从。在知识降临你之後，如果你顺从他们的私欲，那末，你必定是不义者。

134. That was a community that has passed; for them is what they have earned, and for you is what you have earned; and you will not be questioned about what they used to do[That was a community that has ceased to exist; as for them is what they have obtained, and regarding you is in fact what you have obtained; and you ought not to be cross-examined about what they used to do].

135. And they say, “Be Jews or Christians, and you will be guided.” Say, “Rather, the religion of Abraham, the Monotheist; he was not an idolater.”[And they phrase, “Be Christians or Jews, and you may perhaps be explained.” Say, “Or rather, the religion of Abraham, the Monotheist; namely he was not a pagan of course.”]

136. Say, “We believe in God; and in what was revealed to us; and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs; and in what was given to Moses and Jesus; and in what was given to the prophets—from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we surrender.”[You say goodly, “Indeed we believe in God; and in whatever really was exhibited and affirmed to us; and in whatever really was revealed then to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Primogenitors; and in whatever was extraordinarily bestowed to Moses and Jesus; and in what was being specially given and offered to the prophets—belonging to their Lord. We make no extra distinction amid any of them, and majestically to Him we submit.”]

137. If they believe in the same as you have believed in, then they have been guided. But if they turn away, then they are in schism. God will protect you against them; for He is the Hearer, the Knower[This being the case if they believe approximating to that you have believed in, of course they have been guided goodly. Instead if they turn away, they are then in estrangement. As a matter of fact, God will obviously defend you against them; This is because He is exactly the big name Hearer, the Knower].

138. God’s coloring. And who gives better coloring than God? “And we are devoted to Him.”[(Our religion is) the Baptism of God. And who can baptize better than God. And it is the Majestic Almighty we worship.]*

139. Say, “Do you argue with us about God, when He is our Lord and your Lord, and We have our works, and you have your works, and we are sincere to Him?”[You then phrase, “Do you have an argument explosively against us on the subject of God, during the time He is your Lord in addition our Lord, we have our wonderful businesses, along with you have your exercises, and we are honest to God?”]

140. Or do you say that Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Patriarchs were Jews or Christians? Say, “Do you know better, or God?” And who does greater wrong than he who conceals a testimony he has from God? God is not unaware of what you do[Otherwise do you name that Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, and Jacob, and the Primogenitors were Jews or Christians? Say, “Do you know more explicitly, or rather God?” And who does bigger wrong than he who obfuscates and camouflages any testimony he has belonging to God? God is not unaware of what you are going to do].

141. That was a community that has passed. To them is what they have earned, and to you is what you have earned. And you will not be questioned about what they used to do[That was a community that visibly has ceased to exist. As to them is what they have justly came by, as regards to you exactly is what you have obtained; and you ought not to be unreasonably made inquiries about what they used to do of yore].

142. The ignorant among the people will say, “What has turned them away from the direction of prayer they once followed?” Say, “To God belong the East and the West. He guides whom He wills to a straight path.”[The real benighted among the people will say, “What has turned them away from the direction of prayer they once came into existence?” Say, “To God belong the East just the same the West. God offers guidance to whom He exactly wishes to a praiseworthy path.”]

143. Thus We made you a moderate community, that you may be witnesses to humanity, and that the Messenger may be a witness to you[This being the case the gods made the reasonable homeland and parish for you, in such a manner that you may be willing witnesses exceptionally to humanity, and let's say the unobjectionable Messenger may be a witness to you]. We only established the direction of prayer, which you once followed, that We may distinguish those who follow the Messenger from those who turn on their heels. It is indeed difficult, except for those whom God has guided. But God would never let your faith go to waste. God is Kind towards the people, Merciful[In the recent past We affirmed the bearing of prayer, which you extraordinarily followed in days of yore, in such a manner that the gods may possibly distinguish those who follow the unobjectionable Messenger from those who turn on their heels. It is knotty indeed, with the exclusion of those human beings whom God has excellently trained and mentored. In spite of that God would never let your faith go to junk. Almighty really is Extraordinary towards the human beings, Merciful].

144. We have seen your face turned towards the heaven. So We will turn you towards a direction that will satisfy you. So turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque. And wherever you may be, turn your faces towards it. Those who were given the Book know that it is the Truth from their Lord; and God is not unaware of what they do[We have seen your face by this time turned towards the heaven. This being the case We will turn you towards a direction that will certainly animate and exhilarate you. In this wise turn and come round your face towards the Majestically Sacred Mosques. And wherever you may exist, turn and come round your faces in the direction of it. Those human beings who were assuredly given the Book of Everlasting God know that it is the Truth and axioma belonging to their Lord justly; and Messiah is not unaccustomed what they exert].

145. [In spite of the fact that you were to bring to those who were indisputably given the Book of Everlasting God every proof, they would not follow and execute your direction and also trajectory, nor are you to implement their supervision and management, nor do they follow and execute your direction and also management of one another. Besides, providing you were to comply their thirstiness, on the grounds of this, eclipsing the knowledge and acumen that has brought into being to you, you would be one of the wrongdoers and sinners.”]Even if you were to bring to those who were given the Book every proof, they would not follow your direction, nor are you to follow their direction, nor do they follow the direction of one another. And if you were to follow their desires, after the knowledge that has come to you, you would be in that case one of the wrongdoers.

145. Even if you were to bring to those who were given the Book every proof, they would not follow your instruction, nor are you to follow their direCtion, nor do they follow the direCtion of one another. And Providing you were to follow their desires, after the knowledge that has come to you, you would be in that case one of the wrongdoers.
