易經•彖傳•節
  
節，亨，剛柔分，而剛得中。苦節不可貞，其道窮也。說以行險，當位以節，中正以通。天地節而四時成，節以制度，不傷財，不害民。


Tuan Zhuan: Jie        

'Jie intimates progress and attainment:' - the strong and weak (lines) are equally divided, and the strong lines occupy the central places. 'If the regulations (which Jie prescribes) be severe and difficult, they cannot be permanent:' - its course (of action) will in that case come to an end. (We have the feeling of) pleasure and satisfaction directing the course amidst peril. (We have) all regulations controlled (by authority) in its proper place. (We have) free action proceeding from the central and correct position. Heaven and earth observe their regular terms, and we have the four seasons complete. (If rulers) frame their measures according to (the due) regulations, the resources (of the state) suffer no injury, and the people receive no hurt.

Tuan Zhuan: Jie  

(In other words)
'Jie adumbrates furtherance and maximisation:' - the strong and feeble (lines) are justly divided, and the sort of burly lines assume the middle places above the central axis. 'Granted that the principles (that Jie proclaims) be rather severe and confounding, they cannot be standing:'- its furtherance (of impact) shall disappear due to this. (We have the feeling of) nameless pleasure and incredible frolicking presiding the course among danger. (We have) all of the regulations structured (by authority) in its befitting placement. (We have) authorised action proceeding from the central and reliable stature.

Heaven and globe adjust to the affirmed stipulations, and we experience the four seasons all complete. (Only if dominators) frame their rules according to (the worthy of) briefings and regulations, the resources and stockpiles (of the state) undergo hardly any injury, and often the people receive little or no damage].
